Great Wu Fengcao (scientific name: Farfugrium japonicum (L. f.) Kitam.) is a perennial scape-like herb of the genus Wu Fengcao of the Compositae family. The rhizome is stout, 1.2 cm in diameter. The scape is 70 cm tall and densely yellowish pilose when young. The leaves are all basal, rosette-like, with long stalks, 15-25 cm long, and covered with the same hairs as the scape when they are young. Flower heads are radiating, 2-7, arranged in corymbs; peduncle 2-13 cm long and hairy. The achenes are cylindrical, up to 7 mm long, have longitudinal ribs, and are short hairs. Flower and fruit period from August to March of the following year. It grows under forests, valleys and grasses in low-altitude areas. |
